Overview

Lyft, Inc. is one of the largest rideshare platforms which offers mobility as a service, along with motorized scooters, bicycle-sharing system, rental vehicles and food delivery in the U.S. and parts of Canada. At Lyft, their mission statement is “Improving people’s lives with the world’s best transportation.” One way Lyft aims to achieve this is by ensuring that underserved populations have access to community-driven transportation via rideshare.

The Challenge

Lyft places importance on utilizing empathy and authenticity to maintain genuine relationships with their community. Like many other companies, one of their ongoing objectives is to further unlock profitable growth by shaping public opinion and policymaking affecting the market. Lyft imagines a world where cities feel small again and where transportation and technology bring people together. La Machine was brought on board to support Lyft in achieving public policy progress and to help shape engagement and advocacy strategies in their top markets.

Our Approach

We worked cross-functionally across the organization to build relationships with key audiences like drivers and riders, and other members of the Lyft community in order to better engage these members in meaningful action to further the company’s policy and social impact goals.

La Machine stepped in to help further Lyft’s policy initiatives and to better establish and maintain genuine relationships by conducting research and outreach across various regions including AZ, CA, DC, GA, MD, NC, NJ, NM, NY, VA. We have helped elevate key audience’s voices utilizing multilingual communication efforts and by implementing innovative outreach strategies. This has been crucial in order to drive change for Lyft drivers, riders and community partners alike

The Solutions

After reaching out to almost 2,000 drivers and nearly 100 riders, we have helped elevate the voices of those who are most directly impacted by legislation in these markets through having conversations related to voting, submitting a declaration to their local/state judiciary, or even testifying before legislative committees. Much like Lyft, La Machine prides itself on flexibility and strong customer service and understands that policy decisions made at the local, state and federal level should include the voices of those who will feel the effects of these decisions most. La Machine helped to connect legislators with their constituents by organizing in-person and virtual Roundtable events, along with encouraging Lyft drivers and passengers to get more involved civically on issues related to the environment, gig economy, transportation and future of work.
